McNair Updates His Recruitment

Mississippi State picked up a verbal commitment from Ocala, Florida linebacker Darrien McNair very early in the process. Since that time, several other programs have showed varying levels of interest including offers from SEC east foes Florida and Kentucky. McNair had planned to attend Mississippi State's Big Dawg camp, but never made it to campus. What does that mean for his recruitment?

"I wasn't able to make it Mississippi State," said McNair of Friday's planned trip to Starkville. "I am still solid in my commitment though and I feel that I made a good decision."

McNair reports that he is in regular contact with the Bulldog staff and that his absence at Mississippi State's should not be misconstrued as a lack of interest.

"I talk to the coaches at Mississippi State everyday," said McNair. "I am in touch with Coach (Dan) Mullen, Coach Geoff Collins and Coach (Scott) Sallach.

"I have a really good relationship with all of them and I really like Coach Collins.

"He's a real fired up person and I think he's going to be a good coach for me."

The offer flow picked up a good bit for McNair during the spring after coaches were able to see the talented linebacker in action, but things have slowed down in the summer months.

"It has been pretty quiet, but I am not worried about all of that," said McNair. "I am going to be sticking with Mississippi State and I plan on being a Bulldog.

"I am just working on getting ready for the season and I feel like we have the chance to be a good team.

"We were young last year, but we have a lot of people returning this year.

"We should be a good team."
