TigsTown PR 7/23: McCann, Perez Hot in Toledo

While Stephen Moya remains atop the power rankings, a pair of hitters in Toledo are making a push up, as Hernan Perez and James McCann have both been hitting very well for the Hens.

As a reminder, the weekly rankings do not re?ect overall prospect status; nor are they exclusive to members of the TigsTown Top 50. The weekly update factors both performance from the previous week of play and overall numbers. Only players currently in the minors will be eligible each week. Be sure to check back every Wednesday for the latest edition.

1. OF Steven Moya - AA Erie
375 AB | .261 AVG | .830 OPS | 27 2B | 2 3B | 24 HR | 13 SB
Steven Moya went just 4-for-23 this past week. That being said, in typical Moya fashion he made the most of his four hits adding three doubles and a homer. Moya also earned the Eastern League All-Star Game MVP Award thanks largely in part to his fifth inning grand slam. The 22-year-old outfielder leads the Eastern League in homers, runs-batted-in and slugging percentage and is still second in doubles. Moya's .830 OPS is also 12th best in the Eastern League this season.

2. LHP Josh Turley - AA Erie
103 1/3 IP | 1.92 ERA | 0.97 WHIP | 8-1 | 85 K | 25 BB |
Josh Turley earned a win allowing two earned-runs off five hits and two walks over six innings in his Double-A debut on July 19th. Turley gets the ball next on Thursday evening against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

3. RHP Jake Thompson - AA Erie
89 IP | 3.13 ERA | 1.20 WHIP | 6-4 | 81 K | 27 BB |
Jake Thompson earned a no-decision allowing two earned-runs off five hits and two walks on July 18th. The 20-year-old right-hander gets the ball next this afternoon against the Reading Fightin' Phils.

4. 2B Hernan Perez - AAA Toledo
408 AB | .282 AVG | .722 OPS | 26 2B | 5 3B | 4 HR | 15 SB
Hernan Perez cooled off a bit going just 4-for-22 with one extra-base hit since last week's rankings. Even with the slight regression, the 23-year-old is batting an impressive .321 with 16 doubles, 5 triples and 3 homers since May 31st--a span of 190 at-bats.

5. 2B Devon Travis - AA Erie
251 AB | .295 AVG | .796 OPS | 12 2B | 4 3B | 6 HR | 10 SB
Devon Travis continues to rake. The SeaWolves second baseman went 10-for-22 with a double, two homers and three walks this past week. The 23-year-old was also recently named the Eastern League Player of the Week after batting .435 and slugging .783 between July 14th and July 20th.

6. RHP Angel Nesbitt - AA Erie
51 IP | 1.24 ERA | 0.98 WHIP | 3-0 | 52 K | 15 BB | 17 SV
Angel Nesbitt earned a win and notched a save this past week. The 23-year-old allowed one earned-run and struck out three over 3 2/3 innings.

7. RHP Buck Farmer - A West Michigan
98 2/3 | 2.74 ERA | 1.13 WHIP | 9-5 | 113 K | 24 BB |
Buck Farmer finds his way back into the TigsTown Power Rankings after a bit of shoving this past month. The 23-year-old has posted a microscopic 0.78 ERA 0.83 WHIP with 19 strikeouts and just two walks over his last four starts--a span of 23 innings. Farmer's 113 strikeouts lead the MidWest League and his 2.74 ERA is also sixth lowest on the circuit.

8. RHP Jonathon Crawford - A West Michigan
84 1/3 IP | 3.29 ERA | 1.21 WHIP | 5-2 | 56 K | 32 BB |
Jonathon Crawford earned his first win of the month allowing just one earned-run off four hits and a walk over five innings. Hopefully the soon-to-be 23-year-old has finally turned a corner. The former first rounder has posted a disappointing 4.99 ERA, striking out just ten over his last six starts--a span of 30 2/3 innings.

9. C James McCann - AAA Toledo
290 AB | .293 AVG | .741 OPS | 23 2B | 0 3B | 2 HR | 4 SB
James McCann finds his way back into the TigsTown Power Rankings after heating up a bit at the plate recently. McCann is batting .370 with eight doubles and ten RBI this month. The 24-year-old has also reached base safely in his last 13 games.

10. RHP Anthony Castro - GCL
25 IP | 2.16 ERA | 1.00 WHIP | 2-1 | 22 K | 13 BB |
Anthony Castro makes his TigsTown Power Rankings debut this season after yet another impressive performance last week. The projectable 19-year-old's fastball drew numerous whiffs sitting almost effortlessly at 90-93 touching 94 several times throughout the outing. Castro mixed in a potential plus high-70s curveball and a change-up as well.
