2016 Memphian is Off and Running

White Station High (TN) has produced its' fair share of college football prospects over the past few years. One of the top playmakers to come from the Memphis area program is 2016 wide out Dillon Mitchell. The 6-2, 185 pounder is already collecting offers with his most recent coming from Mississippi State.

"I got the offer from Mississippi State yesterday," said Mitchell after Wednesday's practice session. "They can't call me, but they called my coach and told him that they wanted to offer me.

"Later on, I talked to them and Coach (Billy) Gonzales told me that they were ready to offer me.

"He wanted me to talk with Coach (Dan) Mullen, but he was in a conference, so Coach Gonzales got the go ahead to offer me.

"I'm exited about the offer.

"I never thought all of this would happen to me this early, but I'm glad."

The Bulldogs' recruiting efforts are aided by the fact that a close contact of Mitchell's is well on his way to joining the Mississippi State program.

"I have known Donald Gray for a long time and I talked with him about the offer from Mississippi State," said Mitchell. "He's sort of like an older brother to me.

"He told me to take my time and be sure about what I want to do and that I have to make my own decision.

"He's told me all about Mississippi State and about why he's going there and he would love to play with me again.

"He said that it has to be my decision though and that if we wound up together he would be happy to have me up there with him."

Ole Miss has offered and several other programs including Ohio State and Penn State have shown varying levels of interest.

"I went to the Sparq camp and I did good and they had me come back for the NTFC camp and then my name started getting out there," said Mitchell. "I went to Ohio State and they said that they were going to offer me.

"I have heard from a lot of schools and some of them have offered like Louisville, Lafayette, Cincinnati, Ohio State and Auburn.

"I am going to Tennessee to see them play this weekend and they have been saying that they want to see me before they give me an official offer."

Mitchell reports that he plans to take his time with the recruiting process and get to know all of the schools that are showing him interest.

"There are some schools that I really like, but I am keeping everybody even for right now," said Mitchell. "I am not going to commit until sometime next year.

"I have time to see who all is going to offer me, so I might do something like around the middle of the season or something like that next year around the third game."
