Campbell Enjoys Bulldog Win

Most of the top football prospects in the state of Mississippi have already declared their college intentions. Yazoo City star Gabriel Campbell is content to ride out the process and make a decision sometime after his senior season. Campbell made the first of several planned gameday visits this past weekend when he tripped to Mississippi State for the Bulldogs' season opener.

"I had a great time at Mississippi State," said Campbell of the Bulldogs' 49-0 trouncing of Southern Miss. "We were out there in the student section and they were wild and ringing those cowbells.

"I loved the atmosphere and I loved how the stadium looked.

"It was even louder than I expected it to be."

Campbell reports that he saw some things on the field that he found to his liking as well.

"I really liked what I saw from the defense," said Campbell. "I was really watching Preston Smith close and he had a good game.

"He had that interception and he blocked the kick that they brought back for a touchdown.

"I thought the defensive line played really good and I saw some good things out there.

"I saw what I needed to see."

The Bulldogs are one of several teams still vying for Campbell's signing day autograph.

"I like Mississippi State and I had a good time up there," said Campbell. "They are one of the schools I am looking at.

"I know what they have to offer and I have seen what I need to see from them.

"I can't just say I have one leader right now, because I haven't really narrowed it all down.

"I think I might go to Arkansas this weekend and see their game and then I want to go to some other games too.

"I guess when I take these officials, I can start just narrowing it down."

Campbell is content for the time being to wait out the process and focus on his senior season.

"Our defense has been playing pretty good," said Campbell. "We have some things to work out on offense, but we'll be alright.

"We'e 2-0, but we didn't expect these games to be this close.

"Our defense is doing good and we'll just keep on playing hard and doing our part."

Yazoo City escaped Humphreys' County in a three overtime affair last Friday night.

The Indians will travel to Clarksdale this week.
