Bulldogs Make A Move

Mississippi Gulf Coast offensive lineman Martinas Rankin has become one of the most coveted junior college prospects in the state of Mississippi. Rankin helped lead "Perk" to a big win over Northwest Community College last night. With the with the Bulldogs are 2-0 and feeling good about the start to their season.

"We won last night 63-7," said Rankin. "I feel like we're playing really good right now and we can do some big things.

"Our starting O line only got one series in the second half.

"We played pretty good last night.

"I feel like I'm off to a good start and I'm pretty happy with how I played."

While many other major college prospects will be heading to a college game this weekend, Rankin is headed home to Mendenhall, Mississippi to visit with his family.

The three star standout was on the move last weekend as he took in the season opener at Mississippi State.

"I really had a good time up there," said Rankin. "I had seen the new endzone in pictures and I thought it was beautiful.

"Seeing it at the game was even better.

"It was a great atmosphere and I really enjoyed myself."

As an offensive lineman, Rankin paid close attention to the Bulldog blockers as they lead the way to a 49-0 win over Southern Miss.

"I was watching the line to see what type of techniques they were using," said Rankin. "I liked how they all played, especially the first team O line.

"They have some really good players and they're pretty loaded.

"I know they're losing like five senior O lineman, so I would have the chance to play there."

From the sound of things, Mississippi State fans should be encouraged by Rankin's impressions of the current state of Bulldog football.

"I talked with Coach (Dan) Mullen, Coach (Brian) Johnson and Coach (John) Hevesy," said Rankin. "They were telling me how bad they want me up there and that they really want me to be a Bulldog up there in January.

"They had a lot of good things to say and I could really see myself playing up there.

"I thought about all of that, while I was there.

"Mississippi State impressed me and they made a move.

"I would say it's even right now with my top three, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Oklahoma."

Rankin has plans to see the other two members of his trio of favorites.

"I am going up to Oklahoma next week," said Rankin. "They are excited about me coming and I am excited to get up there and see everything.

"I was talking with Ole Miss about taking my official visit for the Egg Bowl, but they are talking about me coming in for the Alabama game.

"We'll just have to see what happens with that.

"I have talked with Mississippi State about taking an official visit there, but we haven't set up a date or anything like that."

Rankin reports that he has not set a firm time frame for a decision, but he has not anything out at this point.

"I guess if I went to Oklahoma and was just blown away by everything, then I might could commit, but I am not expecting anything like that to happen," said Rankin. "I am still planning to take all of my visits and then make a decision.

"I have talked with my family about everything and they are going to be happy with whatever decision that I make.

"Sure they would like me to stay closer to home, but they want what's best for me and they want this to be about what I feel is the best place for me to go."
