Hicks unofficially visited Mississippi State last weekend when the MSU football team played Southern Miss. He really enjoyed the visit.
"That was my first time to be back to Mississippi State since I was there for team camp (June, 2014)," said Hicks. "It was good getting to talk to (MSU head) Coach (Rick) Ray again and all of the other coaches. The fans liked me and showed me a lot of love. I enjoyed it. It was like coming home."
He has formed a great relationship with Coach Ray and his recruiting coach, MSU assistant coach George Brooks.
"Each time Coach Ray talks to me he tells me how much they love me there and to keep on working," said Hicks. "When I was on my visit he talked to me about how they would use me if I came to Mississippi State. He talked to me about how my academics are good and will meet (NCAA) requirements. I talk to Coach Ray almost every day.
"I (also) like (Coach Brooks). He's a real cool guy. He's been recruiting me since my 8th grade, 9th grade year. He's been recruiting me hard. He's always joking around, things like that. He also tells me that Mississippi State is the best school in the SEC. He tells me to continue to work on my jump shot."
Hicks feels like Mississippi State has made him a priority and that impresses him.
"It means a lot to me that they are recruitment me so hard because it lets me know how interested they are in me," said Hicks. "If I went there it would be like home to me. It would be like a big family because they have been recruiting me so long and so hard. I'm real comfortable with everybody at Mississippi State."
Another thing that he likes about Mississippi State is how they want to play him in college.
"Coach Ray said that I am a combo forward," said Hicks. "I like that a lot. Mississippi State and Florida are the only two schools that are recruiting me to play a combo forward. I feel like if I go to Mississippi State I can play my game. Other schools are recruiting me for more of a back to the basket type player. Coach Ray said he would like for me to be versatile, shoot the three and put it on the floor. That makes me feel comfortable because that is how I play in high school."
Mississippi State is one of many colleges recruiting the talented forward.
"I am being recruited by Mississippi State, Florida, Florida State, Middle Tennessee State, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky, Georgia, Wichita State, Murray State and Alabama," said Hicks. "I have offers from Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Middle Tennessee State and Southern Miss. I think (Mississippi State is) close to (offering) because I talk to Coach Ray just about every day and all the other schools that have offered me, I rarely talk to their head coaches."
He sees a great future for the Mississippi State program.
"I think, in a few years, they will be one of the best teams in the SEC," said Hicks. "They are doing a good job of getting a lot of kids in the south to come to Mississippi State. They are building a good program."
