"The visit was great," said Petty, who has also unofficially visited Auburn, Alabama and UAB. "I had already kind of built a relationship with the coaches, but I didn't know their facilities were as nice as they are. The way they have the practice facility and weight room is very nice."
He also had the chance to visit with several of the MSU basketball players.
"They were humble and looked like they wanted to win," said Petty. "The coach (Rick Ray) was talking about how they are going to get them there."
He also came away impressed with both his recruiting coach, assistant coach Wes Flanigan and head coach Rick Ray.
"Coach Flanigan is a real cool guy," said Petty. "He understands the game of basketball because he used to play. And Coach Ray is real cool, too. They are both humble. They both want us to make the right choice and go to the right school that will help us."
Mississippi State has been recruiting Petty for awhile.
"They started recruiting me last year," said Petty. "They said that they like that I have a high motor and that I play with a lot of strength, speed and never give up."
Mississippi State has made a solid impression with the talented guard.
"I definitely have interest in Mississippi State," said Petty, who has offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Alabama and Auburn.
Petty described the type player that he is.
"I am a good overall ballplayer," said Petty, who has been playing basketball since he was 5-years-old. "I would describe myself as a combo guard. I can create. I can drive to the basket. If you leave me open I can shoot. And if you collapse on me I can pass as well. I still need to work on my ball-handling, my agility and my motor."
As a freshman in high school, Petty averaged 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals per game. He helped lead his team to the runner-up spot in Alabama's class 4A state championship. He also performed well in the AAU EYBL circuit this past summer, averaging 15 points per game for the 16U Southeast Elite AAU team.
