Bates Sets Official to Mississippi State

Defensive end Jalen Bates of Kaplan, Louisiana is likely headed out of state for his college career. The rising edge attacker has a final three of Arizona State, Mississippi State and Texas Tech, but the pelican state prepster has not totally eliminated nearby Louisiana-Lafayette. A decision was expected this week, but it appears that timeline is changing, again.

"I was thinking about committing this week, but I am thinking about waiting until my birthday," said Bates. "I might still do it this week, but I am probably going to just wait until October 7th and do it then."

Bates likes the idea of making his big moment memorable as well as the thought of making his next celebration a two fold event.

The three star also has some thinking to do before making his college announcement.

"I want to go and visit Mississippi State before I commit," explained Bates. "I need to give them a chance and take my official up there before I make my decision.

"They have been recruiting me pretty hard and I like all of the coaches there.

"I need to take that visit and then I will be ready to decide."

Bates has taken official excursions to Arizona State and Texas Tech this fall, so the talented defensive end will have plenty of things to compare once he arrives in Starkville for the all expense paid weekend.

"I am going to be up there for the Texas A&M game and then I am going to go back home and make my decision," said Bates. "I don't really have a leader right now.

"My top three are my top three and I like all of them. There all three pretty much even right now.

"I just want to take this visit to Mississippi State and see how things go."
