Pattterson Still Holding SEC West Leaders

Petal, Mississippi offensive lineman Javon Patterson is not one who craves the spotlight. Projected to play offensive guard on the next level, Patterson does his best talking on the football field. The personable Patterson was recently selected to play in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game. While his inclusion on the roster was essentially a given, it still meant a lot to the 6-3, 315 pounder.

Javon Patterson profile

Patterson and the Panthers have suffered back to back losses against Oak Grove and Brandon, so the group is looking to regroup and make something of the season.

"It's not going very well right now," said Patterson of the season. "We just have to get better as a team and try to find some true players who can play.

"We need all eleven at a time. We just need to find the right combination.

"It's not too late for us. We just have to get some things figured out."

Petal High School coach Marcus Boyles is quick to heap praise on his talented left tackle.

"He's just been huge for us," said Boyles of the talented four star. "He's the best offensive lineman in the state."

The rankings and offer list certainly backs up what the veteran coach has to say.

Patterson has offers from most of the SEC and has narrowed the field down to Auburn, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

"Recruiting wise, things are going good," said Patterson. "I went to Auburn last week and that went good. Auburn is a great place.

"I was eager to see how they ran the ball and they did a good job."

The four star took an unofficial visit to Starkville this past Saturday to see "two great teams play" in Auburn and Mississippi State.

Another in state school will play host to Patterson this weekend.

"I am going to Ole Miss next and I am trying to get some official visits set up for November and December," explained Patterson. "I am still considering Auburn, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

"Auburn and Ole Miss have been at the top, but Mississippi State is making a real hard push right now."
