Campbell Still Gathering Info

Defensive end Gabriel Campbell is one of the only highly recruited players in the scout.com Mississippi Top 30 to remain "open". While many of his peers have already announced their college intentions, Campbell is content to take his time and make a decision closer to national signing day. The Yazoo City prospect continues to report that his options remain open and that his deliberations continue.

"I have ten scholarship offers and I have only been able to visit three schools," said Campbell. "I don't have a list of favorites or a favorite or anything like that yet.

"I am not sure how I am supposed to pick a favorite out of all of the schools when I haven't had a chance to visit all of them yet.

"I have only been to Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama, so far.

"I want to visit all of them, but I know that's not going to happen. I have been wanting to go see Arkansas and I am supposed to see Oklahoma next month.

"I will visit as many of them as I can to see what they all have to offer."

Rumors made the rounds recently that a pair of back-to-back game day visits to Ole Miss had vaulted the Rebels into the lead, but it appears those rumors remain largely unfounded.

"I didn't go up there twice," said Campbell. "I only went to the Memphis game. They wanted me to come back up for the Alabama game, but I didn't make it.

"I am not going anywhere this weekend, but I am planning on going back to Mississippi State next weekend when they play Arkansas."

The selection process continues for the three star standout.

"I don't plan on making a decision until after I have had a chance to visit as many of the schools that have offered me as I can," said Campbell. "After I take my visits, then I will make my decision. It might be sometime around signing day."

With recruiting on the back burner in many respects, Campbell is focusing most of his energy on Yazoo City football.

"The season could be better," said Campbell. "We have Gentry this week.

"We have a lot of experience on defense, but we have had to put some players on offense this year that aren't used to playing offense. We're working hard and just trying to get things going."
