Swain Considering Several Options

Maurice Swain signed with Indiana as a member of the class of 2012. Now enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast community college, Swain is one of the most highly sought after junior college defensive lineman in the country. With offers from several Big 5 programs, Swain has some serious thinking to do. A trio of SEC schools appear to be setting the recruiting pace as we prepare for the home stretch.

"I am talking a lot with Auburn, Mississippi State and Kentucky," said Swain. "All three of them have offered me. I have been talking with Ohio State and Florida. Neither of them have offered, but they are talking about it.

"Oregon and Arizona State are talking with me some. Oregon hasn't offered yet, but Arizona State has."

Swain had the chance to take some official visits during his senior year of high school. He plans to revisit some of the schools who were involved with him then this go around.

"I know what Auburn has to offer. It's just down the road from my house, so I have been there a few times," said Swain. "I want to go to Kentucky again and take a visit there. I have never been to Mississippi State before, but I like what's going on there. I want to take one of my visits there.

"I am having to work my visits around my football schedule. We're still playing, so it may be December before I get to take those visits."

Swain will look to help Gulf Coast prolong their season when they take on defending National Champion East Mississippi this weekend.

"It's the same situation as last year," said Swain. "We played them in the playoffs then and we are getting ready to do it again.

"We didn't play them in the regular season, so this will be the first time we have seen them since last year.

"I feel pretty confident about it and I think we have the chance to play hard and get a win."

When Swain plays his final game as a Bulldog at MGCCC, he will turn his full focus towards the next level.

The talented defensive tackle still has some questions that need to be answered before he can make a decision about his future.

"I am keeping everybody even for right now, because I haven't had a chance to visit all of these schools that I am looking at," said Swain. "I may get some other offers, so I don't want to make any decisions right now.

"I am just trying to stay open until after the season, when I can take these visits. I want to see what every body has to say."

Coming from a junior college program, Swain is looking for a school where he can make an immediate impact.

"I am looking for early playing time, that's a given," said Swain. "Outside of that, I am just looking for a family type atmosphere where I can work hard and get better and get my degree.

"I am going into business, so I want to find a school with a great business department that can help me get a good education and be ready for my future."
