Player and Coach Quotes:

John Cohen Quotes

  • .... overall opinion of the scrimmage. - "We had 4 or 5 really good defensive plays in the infield. We also had too many 3-ball counts today. We had 14 three-ball counts, which is not indicative of our pitching staff. We have to improve in that area. And offensively, we need to take advantage of that. But I certainly thought we really defended well today. That is kind of a hallmark of our club."
  • .... on Lucas Laster pitching again. - "It was great getting Lucas Laster out there again. He didn't have the command that he normally has but this was only his second start after coming off of mono."
  • .... the infield defense. - "I thought that (Ryan) Gridley made some great plays and I thought that (Matt) Spruill made two great plays at third base. Our infielders are doing a really great job and are really focused in. When you have fielders that good on the infield you need to attack the strikezone and get early contact."
  • .... on injuries. - "(Gavin) Collins is nursing a little bit of a sore shoulder but I think we are going to get him back soon. Matthew Britton had a little knee surgery and will be out 4 weeks. I think he will be as good as new. (Ben) Hudspeth had a little injury on the mound where he hurt his knee. He is going to be out 8 to 12 weeks. But we think we will get him back. It is a real shame because he had been pitching very, very well. (Joey) Swinarski had a little collision injury in a rundown play. We had to hold him out until he was cleared to play. Hopefully, we will get him back full-go shortly."
