4-Star D'Marcus Simonds Talks MSU Commitment

Buford (GA) High School 4-star combo guard D'Marcus Simonds committed to Mississippi State Tuesday night on twitter. He chose MSU over offers from schools throughout the nation.

  • Name: D'Marcus Simonds
  • Classification: 2016
  • High School: Buford (GA) High School
  • Position: Combo Guard
  • HT-WT: 6-foot-3, 175
  • Scout.com Ranking: 4-Star, 76th best player in his class
  • Colleges of Interest: Committed to Mississippi State

  • For the second straight commitment, Rick Ray and staff have pulled in a 4-star recruit.

Class of 2015 4-star guard Quinndary Weatherspoon (78th best player in his class) committed in July and recently signed with the Bulldogs. This time it is Buford (GA) High School combo guard D'Marcus Simonds, Scout.com's 76th ranked player in the class of 2016.

Ray and Smonds' recruiting coach Wes Flanigan did a great job showing the talented guard what type program they are building at Mississippi State.

"I felt like Coach (Rick) Ray is turning (the program) in the right direction," said Simonds "(And) the entire family aspect of it is amazing. I also love the campus and the coaching staff."

Schools throughout the nation were recruiting Simonds.

"Kansas State, Memphis, UConn, Florida, Georgia Tech, Georgia and more were recruiting me," said Simonds.

Simonds is MSU's first commitment in the class of 2016.

According to Scout.com Director of Recruiting (Basketball) Evan Daniels, Mississippi State picked up a very talented player.

"D’Marcus Simonds versatility sticks out," said Daniels. "He’s a true combination guard that can fill a few rolls. While I think he's better off the ball, attacking the rim and looking to score, he's certainly capable of playing some point guard too.

"Simonds is a good athlete with solid speed. He handles the ball well. As a scorer, he's at his best attacking the basket, but he's also a capable shot maker.

"I really like this pickup for Rick Ray and Mississippi State. Simonds is a guy that can fill a few roles for Mississippi State."
