Allen Drawing SEC Suitors

Mississippi State will see two veteran tight ends move on once the final game of the 2014 season has been played. The Bulldogs have utilized the tight ends a great deal this year, so an opportunity may be arising for a junior college tight end prospect. Lackawanna CC tight end Julian Allen has been on the Bulldogs' radar for some time. Allen will get to see Mississippi State up close this weekend.

"I am visiting Mississippi State this weekend," said Allen. "I am heading down there Friday.

"They contacted my coach about two months ago and then they reached out to me. I have been talking with Coach (Scott) Sallach about once a week every since."

Things grew a little more serious in recent weeks.

"I talked to Dan Mullen and he set up my visit," said Allen. "He told me that they were interested in talking with me and that they may offer. He said that if they do offer me, that he wants to do it in person face to face and with my family there.

"My father is going to be making the trip down there with me this weekend.

"That would be a huge offer for me."

Allen reports that he has done some research and he believes that the Dan Mullen offense may be a great fit for him and his skill set.

"I love how they use Malcolm Johnson," said Allen. "We're very similar players. He is 6-2, 235 and I am 6-4, 235, but we have the same abilities. I am more of a guy who lines up out wide like he does, but I can inline block too.

"I like how they use the tight ends at Mississippi State and I believe that it could be a good place for me to be."

The Bulldogs have not extended an offer yet, but one may be coming. In the event, the Bulldogs do offer, Allen would be receptive.

"I am committed to South Alabama right now," said Allen. "They offered me back in the spring when nobody else was really showing me interest. I took an official visit down there and I committed.

"I wouldn't want to commit to another school without sitting down and talking about things with my parents, but if Mississippi State offered me that would be huge for me."

The Bulldogs are not the only SEC school showing Allen some late interest.

"My recruitment is really just beginning to take off now that the season is over," said Allen. "I am hearing some from South Carolina and Kentucky recently reached out to me.

"Kentucky lost a high school kid to Michigan, so they are coming back on me. They let me know earlier that I was sort of a second option, because they had that high school guy committed.

"Now they are back in contact with me, so I will see how that goes."

A final decision will need to come soon for Allen who will sign with his new school next month.

"I am going to be signing in like a month from today," said Allen. "I want to make a decision in the next couple of weeks, so I have some things to think about.

"I haven't met any of the coaches from Mississippi State yet. I have talked with Coach Sallach some, but I have only spoken with Dan Mullen once. This weekend will be the first time I have had the chance to be around them, so I am just waiting to see how things go with them and during the visit before I really do anything. They haven't offered me yet, so we'll just have to see what happens."
