John Cohen Quotes
.... overall opinion of the scrimmage. - "We had a cool evening and I thought our kids really battled through it. I felt like it was a pitching-dominated ballgame. Of course, I felt that Lucas Laster really pitched well. He threw a bunch of strikes and got to both sides of the plate. He changed speeds well. I thought he did a great job. And I'm glad because it becomes a more competitive series. The Maroons were down 2-0, now it is 2-1. We will move it to Saturday now and play Sunday if necessary."
.... on freshman pitcher Jesse McCord's performance. - "Jesse McCord is a freshman who has a great changeup. He is getting a ton of swing and misses on that. He also has a very good fastball and is going to have a good breaking ball. It is very difficult, in these conditions, to have good spin on a breaking ball."
.... on other pitching performances. - "Trent Waddell went out and pitched well tonight. Trevor Fitts has some moments when he threw the ball well. Again, a curveball guy, it is very difficult to command that pitch in cold weather. Levi Mintz has changed his armslot a little bit. Coach Thompson has helped him develop a slider. And it has some swing and miss to it as well. I thought we had a lot of guys pitch well."
.... on Lucas Laster having so many groundball outs in the game. - "He has really good finish on his fastball, so guys are going to swing over the top of it. And he has a really good changeup. He got a ton of ground balls on his changeup. We need Lucas Laster to be good for us to be good this spring."
.... on Joey Swinarski getting a couple of hits in the game. - "Joey is a very talented young man who has a great swing. It is good to see him get the barrel on the baseball.."
