Rankin Talks Bulldog Signing

Four star offensive lineman Martinas Rankin signed with Mississippi State today ending long and difficult selection process that boiled down to a final four of Florida, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and Ole Miss. Rankin calls today a "good day" and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College product is eager for the next chapter.

"I picked Mississippi State, because it's a chance to play pretty close to home and it's a good opportunity for me," said Rankin. "I feel like Mississippi State is place that I can go and be happy on and off the field.

"There is a lot of opportunity there and I feel like I can go there and be developed. They have a good track record for developing players."

Slotted to compete for the left tackle spot in the starting lineup this spring, Rankin reports that he left Starkville last weekend favoring the Bulldogs.

"I just got back from my official visit on Sunday and I was leaning that way," said Rankin of the Bulldogs. "I told them before I left that unless something changed, I was going to be signing with them.

"I just needed a couple of days to be sure about everything and then I knew for sure this morning."

Rankin announced for Mississippi State at 9:30 AM this morning at a ceremony in Perkinston, Mississippi where several MGCCC Bulldogs declared their four year school intentions.

The Bulldogs added three junior college signees today in Rankin, Jonathan Calvin and Donald Gray of Copiah-Lincoln to go along with high schoolers Malik Dear and Deddrick Thomas.

With the decision making process over and the verdict now official, Rankin is eager to begin his Mississippi State career.

"I am just ready to get up there and get to work," said Rankin. "I can't wait to be there and be with everybody getting ready for the season. I feel like I can enjoy Mississippi State on and off of the field and I am ready.

"It's been a long journey for me and I am glad that all of this is over. It's been a good day for me. Everybody is really happy for me and I know that I made the best decision for me and my future."

Rankin is one of 29 members of the Mississippi State 2015 class. He chose the Bulldogs over offers from Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Texas among others.
