Stamps Readies for Signing Day

For Chris Stamps, the end of the recruiting process has been largely uneventful. Stamps committed early and then told other programs that he planned to stick with his pledge to Mississippi State. As a result of Stamps' stance on his verbal pledge to the Bulldogs, he is not having to deal with any late anxiety. The state's top corner is just counting down the days until national signing day.

"I had a very good visit at Mississippi State," Stamps explained. "It's always like that when I go up there. I get there and I get around everybody and I don't want to leave."

Stamps reports that the weekend was filled with great friends, great good and great accommodations.

"We got to stay at a great hotel and we got to eat a lot of great food," Stamps said. "I got to spend a lot of time around the other players and that was a lot of fun.

"Cedric Jiles was my host and he's a great guy. I have known him since I was a 9th grader and he was a senior at Clinton. He took me a couple of places and we had a good time together. The whole weekend was great."

Stamps was accompanied by his parents throughout the weekend. The Stamps' family was especially attentive during the meeting with Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen.

"Coach Mullen talked about the same kind of things he usually does," Stamps explained. "He talked to me about academics and high expectations. He says that he wants me to come in ready to work hard on the field and in the classroom and that they are expecting a lot from me.

"It was a great meeting and I am excited about getting back up there and getting started."

A quartet of Mississippi targets were on hand during the weekend. Stamps reports that the current Bulldog verbals were pro Mississippi State, but did not want to overwhelm the others with recruiting talk.

"I didn't want to say too much about all of that," Stamps explained. "We all just wanted to have a good time and get to know each other. The guy committed to Alabama (T.D. Moton) had a good time. I talked with him a little bit. He seemed to enjoy himself.

"Leo (Lewis) was there. I think he may end up surprising some people. We'll all just have to see what happens. I know we all had a good time and I enjoyed being back up there again."

There was talk early on that the University of Kentucky may be able to squeeze an official visit out of Stamps, but the Warren Central star reports that his visit to Mississippi State will be the only one that he takes.
