Senior lefties Ross Mitchell (78-80, 80 mph) and Lucas Laster (84-86, 89 mph) pitched 4 innings of scoreless ball on Saturday before Laster gave up the only 2 runs of the game in the top of the 5th.
In his outing, Mitchell allowed no runs on 2 hits and 2 walk while striking out 2 in 4.2 innings. Laster gave up 2 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks and 1 hit batter. He struck out 4 in his 4 innings.
Sophomore righty Dakota Hudson took over for Laster in the 5th and threw into the 7th inning. In his outing he gave up no runs on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. He once again showed good velocity, consistently throwing 91-93, topping out at 93. He also showed an excellent slider that he used to get both of his Ks.
Sophomore righthander Zac Houston (88-90, 90 mph) took over for Mitchell in the bottom of the 5th, walking the first batter that he faced then striking out the next batter to end the inning.
Sophomore lefty Vance Tatum (86-88, 88 mph) pitched for both teams, getting 4 outs, including a strikeout while giving up 1 hit.
Senior righty Trevor Fitts (86-88, 88 mph) closed out the game, finishing the bottom of the 7th, getting a pair of Ks and a groundout to short.
John Holland (pictured) was the hitting star in the game, going 4-for-4 with a double.
In the Sunday game sophomore righty Austin Sexton (86-88, 91 mph) and freshman Jesse McCord (86-89, 89 mph) were the starting pitchers. Both pitched well.
Sexton, in 4 innings, gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and a walk while striking out 5. One of the runs he gave up was a home run by Michael Smith. McCord also threw 4 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Four of his six strikeouts were on off-speed pitches.
Sidearmers sophomore righthander Logan Elliot (81-82, 82 mph) and junior righthander Cole Barlow (78-79, 80 mph) threw in the 5th and 6th innings in relief of Sexton, with Barlow giving up a run on 2 hits and a walk. Elliot allowed no runs, hits, walks or struck out anyone. Redshirt freshman righty Levi Mintz (83-85, 86 mph) took over for Barlow and gave up a run-scoring single and groundout to end the inning.
Redshirt freshman righthander Jacob Billingsley (84-87, 87 mph) and redshirt freshman righthander Levi Mintz (pitching for both teams) finished up for McCord with both throwing an inning each. Billingsley started his inning by walking the first two batters but used a double play and a strikeout to keep his inning scoreless. Mintz allowed 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th on 3 walks and 2 hits to go along with his 1 strikeout.
John Holland was once again the hitting star of the game, going 2-for-2 with a walk. He was 6-for-6 during the two days.
