Dan Mullen Bulldog Signees From 2009-2015

It total numbers it ties for the biggest. But if unofficial rankings count for anything, this looks to be the best of Dan Mullen’s signing classes with Mississippi State.

Mullen has announced a 28-member recruiting class on the NCAA’s national signing day. Six of them are already on campus as mid-year signees and early enrollees, including junior college transfers Donald Gray, Jonathan Calvin, and Martinas Rankin. Early-arriving prep stars are Malik Dear, Michael Story, and Deddrick Thomas.

Those transfers matter because, when able to ‘count back’ to previous classes with open scholarships, they allow Mississippi State to stay closer to the annual limit of 25 new scholarship players. Of course in a handful of cases senior college eligibility remains to be earned, then accepted by the NCAA’s clearinghouse in time for summer or fall semester enrollment.

Mullen’s first signing class in 2009 also had 28 members, though one of them, punter Baker Swedenburg, had previously signed before sitting out the 2008 season as a grayshirt. The 2012 class also topped-out at 28.

As ecstatic Bulldog fans savor this year’s collection of recruits, it may be useful and even entertaining to read the complete list of Mullen signees 2009-present. It includes some who never set foot on campus after signing or left shortly upon arriving, and recruiting fans should enjoy trying to recall all those names and what happened. Or, did not happen.

These lists are compiled from the handouts on those signing days given out by MSU, along with a few additions missed on the day itself or later signees. In this list ‘*’ means those played as a first-year transfer or as a true freshmen in 2009-14, though in a couple of cases they would redshirt a year later or as with Cedric Jiles get the year back entirely. The junior college transfers are marked ‘jc’. Positions generally are what the signee was projected at on signing day, not where they necessarily played.
