2016 Will Swindoll: A Player To Watch

Oxford (MS) High School class of 2016 offensive lineman Will Swindoll is one of the top players in Mississippi at his position. And several colleges have already taken notice of the talented lineman.

  • Name: Will Swindoll
  • Classification: 2016
  • High School: Oxford (MS) High School
  • Position: Offensive Lineman
  • HT: WT: 6-foot-3.5, 275
  • Scout.com Ranking: NR

  • "I have talked to Memphis and Duke," said Swindoll. "I went to Ole Miss' Junior Day and I am going to Memphis' Junior Day on February 28th."

He would prefer to stay in-state if possible but is open to all schools.

"Any school around this area would be nice because I would really like to stay pretty close to home," said Swindoll. "It would be really nice to get offers from Ole Miss and State and be able to play at either of those two schools because I have grown up watching those two schools. Since I am from Oxford I have gone to a lot of Ole Miss games and my mom is a big State fans, so I have gone to a bunch of State games. I feel most comfortable with the atmosphere at those schools but I would like any school, really. I am really just trying to see how it all shakes out."

Will's mother, Debbie Swindoll, played tennis at Mississippi State from 1978 to 1982 and was inducted into the Mississippi State Hall of Fame in 2007.

She is the reason for his love of tennis, a sport he has been All-State in since the 7th grade. He feels tennis has helped his footwork on the football field.

"It really does help a lot," said Swindoll. "I have been playing tennis for a long time and almost all of that is foot movement and quickness."

Swindoll, who has a great combination of size, quickness and meanness on the field that you rarely see from someone as young as him, also earned MAC 1st-team 5A All-State in football this past season, his first year to start for Oxford High School.

"This was my first year as a starter," said Swindoll, who played sparingly as a sophomore.

He was a little surprised that he earned the honor.

"I felt like I had really started coming on late in the year when I had finally gotten some game type situations (under my belt)," said Swindoll. "I felt like I had a really good year but it was a bit of a surprise."
