Bulldogs Grab Early Lead

The Mississippi Pinebelt has been good to the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. In recent years, Dan Mullen and his staff have signed players from Bogue Chitto, Brookhaven, Columbia, McComb, North Pike, Oak Grove and other small towns along the highway 98 corridor. The Bulldogs are once again dipping their nets into south Mississippi waters and may soon bring up another gem from down south.

KaDerrion Mason profile

KaDerrion Mason comes in at 6-5 250 with a frame that was heaven sent for the defensive end position. The talented Mason is excited about his early options including a recent tender from the home state Bulldogs of Mississippi State.

"I have offers from Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, Missouri and West Virgina," Mason reported. "I haven't talked with anybody from Missouri or West Virginia yet, but I talked with a coach from Louisiana Tech on twitter and I talked to a few of the coaches from Mississippi State."

Mason reports that his contacts with the Bulldog coaches have been extremely positive.

"I talked with Coach (Tony) Hughes, the running backs coach (Greg Knox) and Coach (Dan) Mullen," Mason said. "They were telling me that the defense is there for me to come in and be a big time player. They said that they really want me to come up there and be a Bulldog and play defensive end in their defense."

Current Bulldog safety Deontay Evans is a long time friend of Mason's. The rising senior reports that he speaks with Evans a good bit.

"Me and Deontay talk on the regular," Mason said. "He loves it up there and he talks like that's the place to be. I have known him for a long time and he is always telling me how hard they work, but how it's all worth it. He told me that he thought it would be a good place for me."

It appears that the Bulldogs have made a very good impression on the talented edge setter.

"I went up to watch them play against Arkansas and I saw a lot of things that I liked," Mason said. "I could see myself playing in that defense and on that field. They have a great atmosphere and some of the things that I am looking for.

"Right now, Mississippi State is my top school. They are one of the schools that I have always liked. I am happy to have that offer.

"I am not planning on committing or anything like that right now. I am not even thinking about all of that. I am just trying to get better, I still have plenty of time to think about where I am going to college."
