GPTV: Hamilton (MS) High School class of 2016 athlete Keshon Heard, one of the fastest football players in the state of Mississippi among all classifications, talks about his recent offer from Mississippi State and other schools that are recruiting him.

  • Keshon, you received the offer from Mississippi State last week. How did the offer come to be? When did the Bulldogs get involved with you?
    "They have been sending me letters all season long, so I kind of figured it would come in soon."

    Explain the process leading up to the offer?
    "Coach Weeks called me and told me to call one of the (Mississippi State) coaches. And I was real excited when I got the scholarship offer."

    Who offered the scholarship to you and what did he say?
    "Coach (John) Hevesy. He was like, 'do you want to be a Bulldog?' I was like, 'yeah.' It was exciting."

    Did they talk to you about committing or just taking your time?
    "They told me that they were offering me a scholarship and that I would have a lot more schools coming, so they aren't going to ask me if I want to commit or not."

    How do you feel about the Bulldogs?
    "I like Mississippi State. I would love to go play for them."

    You have come to the (Steve Robertson Southeast Select) Tupelo Combine and almost won the Fastest Man Contest last year against some of the fastest players in the state. Position-wise, where do you see yourself playing on the next level and what position are the Bulldogs talking about?
    "The Bulldogs label me as an athlete but I am pretty sure I will go over there and play defense."

    How do you feel about playing defense?
    "I would love to play defense. I would like to hit somebody."

    What is next for you between now and the end of the school year?
    "Track season is coming up now. So, that is what I will be focusing on now."

    Do you have plans to visit Mississippi State in the next few weeks?
    "I plan on going up there this week."

    When you got home and explained what happened (in regard to the offer) what was that moment like for you?
    "They were all proud of me. My dad told me that I needed to keep my grades up because grades are important."

    I know you have heard from Louisiana-Lafayette, Nebraska, Missouri and a few other schools. Are other school serious about you right now or would you say Mississippi State is the most serious right now?
    "I think Mississippi State is the most serious right now."
