Pitching Rotation:

San Diego will likely pitch three juniors this weekend, RHP David Hill (1-2, 4.15), LHP PJ Conlon (1-0, 1.59) and RHP Gary Cornish (0-0, 4.38) this weekend.

Although Hill's ERA is high, he has gotten better in each outing, giving up 6, 3 and 1 run in 6.1, 5 and 6 innings. Against then 8th ranked Texas on the road he only allowed 1 run on 1 hit and 4 walks while striking out 6 in 6 innings. The main issue that he has had this season is lack of command, walking 12 batters and throwing 5 wild pitches in 17.1 innings.

Conlon, a preseason All-WCC All-Conference selection, has had two great outings in his last two starts, giving up 0 runs on 6 hits and 5 walks while striking out 13 in 12 innings. One of those outings was against Texas.

Cornish has been the least effective of the three possible weekend rotation starters, giving up 5 runs (all earned) in 10.2 innings in his two starts. He's also given up 12 hits, walked 4 and struck out 13. He was touched for 4 runs in 4 innings in his last outing.

Relief Pitching:

San Diego will likely use five pitchers in relief, sophomore RHP CJ Burdick (0-0, 3.60, 0 S), redshirt junior RHP Drew Jacobs (0-0, 2.00, 0 S), junior LHP Jacob Hill (2-1, 4.32, 0 S), redshirt junior LHP Anthony McIver (0-2, 5.14, 1 S) and freshman RHP Jonathan Teaney (0-1, 6.00, 0 S).

Burdick has appeared in 3 games, 2 as a starter. In his 1 relief appearance he allowed 0 runs on 1 hit and 0 walks while striking out 5 in 4 innings. I would expect him to be brought in if one of the starters is ineffective early.

Jacobs has appeared in 4 games, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits and 1 walk with 6 Ks in 9 innings. He is usually used as a middle reliever.

Hill has the most appearances on the staff with 5. In his outings he has given up 7 runs (4 earned) in 8.1 innings. He has allowed 11 hits, walked 5 and struck out 9. He is usually brought in at the end of a game.

McIver is used either as a middle and late reliever. In his 4 outings he has given up 4 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 9 in 7 innings.

Teaney has been a middle reliever this season. In 6 innings he has given up 4 runs on 6 hits and 6 walks while striking out 8.

Hitting:

Although San Diego is only hitting .262 as a team, they do have four players hitting .300 or above, junior Kyle Holder (.342, 13-of-38, 1 HR, 4 RBI) senior Austin Bailey (.324, 11-of-34, 0 HR, 3 RBI), redshirt junior Jerod Smith (.303, 10-of-33, 0 HR, 3 RBI) and freshman Hunter Mercado-Hood (.300, 6-of-20, 0 HR, 3 RBI).

Not far behind are redshirt freshman Aidan Stinnett (.294, 10-of-34, 0 HR, 6 RBI) and sophomore Colton Waltner (.276, 8-of-29, 0 HR, 4 RBI).

Freshman Bryson Brigman is hitting .233, Ben Wylly .222 and Riley Adams .190.

One position player not mentioned is senior Jesse Jenner. Jenner, who hit .348 last season and is a preseason All-WAC selection, has recently come back from an injury and is hitting .182 in 11 at-bats.
