Jones In No Hurry

Starkville High School boasts an impressive rising senior class. One of the top prospects in the Yellowjacket class of 2016 is defensive lineman Kobe Jones. Jones has collected several early offers with in state SEC schools Mississippi State and Ole Miss among the most relentless suitors. Recently Jones was back on campus at Mississippi State to see the Bulldogs finish out spring practice.

Kobe Jones profile

"I thought the spring game went pretty good," Jones said of the annual Maroon and White game. "The team looked good and they have some real depth on defense. I think they had a pretty good spring. I was over there for most of the practices and they looked pretty good."

Mississippi State was one of the first schools to offer Jones a scholarship and the hometown Bulldogs remain a strong a consideration for the talented defensive end.

"Every time I go over there they are always telling me how much they want me to be a Bulldog," Jones said. "They tell me that they have a plan in place for me there and that they are going to help me accomplish all of the goals I have for the future.

"I like Mississippi State a lot, but I am still keeping all of my options open. I want to take my time with everything and see what all offers I get before I make my decision."

Jones is a big part of the Starkville defensive unit, a unit that took the Jackets to the 6A north state title game. Many are expecting SHS to be right back in the thick of things this fall.

"Spring practice is going pretty good," Jones said. "We're working hard to get ready for the season. I want this to be my best season. I really want to be in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game too. I am looking forward to everything."

With offers from Colorado State, Memphis Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss among others, Jones is already on the recruiting radar in a big way. The spring evaluation period and summer camps should yield more offers for the talented three star.

At this point, Jones is trying to take a measured approach to his recruitment and not make any emotional decisions.

"Right now, I am planning on making my decision after the season, definitely after the season," Jones said. "I am just trying to keep everything even for right now and see what all of my options are before I do anything. I am trying to just take my time with everything."

Jones and Starkville will play their spring game at Mississippi State's Davis Wade Stadium next month as part of a collection of jamborees for schools around the area.
