GPTV: Cohen Talks Tiger Series

Mississippi State wraps up the 2015 home season by hosting Louisiana State, in the week’s early-starting SEC series for ESPN telecast.

The Western Division rivalry begins Thursday evening with a 6:30 start time for ESPNU, with Bulldog lefthander Lucas Laster (4-3, 3.16) matched against LSU’s southpaw Jared Poche (7-1, 2.74). The Friday 7:00 game is also on ESPNU and pits RHP Preston Brown (5-5, 3.76) against undefeated Tiger righty Alex Lange (7-0, 1.86).

Mississippi State has not posted a starter for Saturday’s 3:00 finale (ESPN2). LSU is listing righty Austin Bane (1-2, 2.83).

Louisiana State (38-7, 14-6 SEC) arrives with a consensus #1 national ranking, though they are not first in the conference as of now. Thanks to a rainout against Georgia, the Tigers have played one less game than 15-6 Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs (23-22, 7-14) are at the other end of the SEC spectrum though. They begin the weekend tied for 12th, and thus the last slot in the SEC Tournament, with Tennessee. Both teams have three series left and by coincidence will conclude the regular season with a direct matchup in Knoxville.

Coach John Cohen met with media Wednesday to talk about the series.
