McQuary has excelled in both sports this season. In football he intercepted a phenomenal 25 passes. In baseball he is hitting .409 with 38 stolen bases in 39 attempts. And coaches from both sports have taken notice of his exceptional play in the two sports.
"(Mississippi State assistant football) Coach (John) Hevesy called me the other day," said McQuary. "South Alabama, ULL, Southern Miss and Memphis are showing interest in me. None have offered yet. They want me to come to their camps so that they can see me in person.. They have seen film of me. Now they want to see me in person.
"For baseball, I am being looked at by Southern Miss, Delta State and Mississippi State. I have gone to some of their camps and gone to some of their games and have talked to them after the games."
During the upcoming summer, he plans on participating in both sports.
"I plan on playing baseball with my school team and the Pontotoc team," said McQuary, who plays shortstop and also closes for his high school baseball team. "I have also been invited to go to Oklahoma and play with Team Mississippi (in the Junior Sunbelt Classic). I also plan on going to a couple of college football camps. I have thought about the Memphis camp, the (Mississippi) State camp and the ULL camp."
As of now, he's not sure what sport he will play in college.
"I am going to wait and see what kind of offers I receive from the two sports," said McQuary. "I want to play football and baseball but I don't really know right now if that will be possible. The good thing is I have my senior year to figure it out."
One college program that he is definitely interested in is Mississippi State, a school that he has rooted for since he was young.
"I think they are a great overall program, baseball and football," said McQuary. "It just feels like home because growing up I have gone to all of their games. My dad is a Mississippi State guy. He was a walk-on in football there."
