Johnson Shines at Bulldog Camp

With Coach Manny Diaz back at the helm of the Mississippi State defense, the veteran coordinator is looking for a talented linebacker or two to join his personnel group in the 2016 signing class. With one backer already in the fold, Deshon Cooper, the Bulldog coaching staff has invited in several talented players to audition for a spot in the 2016 haul.

Ridgeway High School product Darron Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee was among the leaders at linebacker in the first day of the Mississippi State camp sessions. Johnson reports that the experience was a positive one.

"Things went very well today and I really like Coach Diaz," Johnson said. "He is my recruiter and we have a good relationship on the field and off of the field. He taught me a couple of things that I can learn and use in this up coming season.

"It was pretty cool and it was pretty simple. He really made it all easy and he knows how to explain things to make them easy to understand. He had us flying around out there."

As Johnson enters the summer, he has a pair of offers from Air Force and Lincoln University, but he hopes to change that by taking is talent on road and showing coaches just want he can do.

So far the feedback from the Bulldog coaching staff has been positive, but a scholarship offer has not been discussed just yet.

"They are telling me that they like me highlight film and that they like how I move," Johnson said. "They haven't mentioned an offer yet, but they seem very interested in me."

Several other schools are showing interest and most of them should expect a visit this summer. The next stop on the Johnson family tour is Vanderbilt.
