Woods Visits Starkville

Pinson Valley standout Jay Woods has over 20 scholarship offers to date. Several schools including Mississippi State have shown interest, but stopped short of offering. Woods hopes that a strong camp showing in Starkville will encourage the Bulldogs to join his growing list of options.

Closing in on two dozen scholarship offers, Woods has begun to see a group of suitors begin to make a move towards the top of his personal pecking order.

"The main ones are Memphis, Southern Miss, South Alabama, Arkansas State, Army and Cincinnati," Woods said. "Mississippi State hasn't offered yet, but Coach DeShea (Townsend) likes the way I play and the way I play press man and the length of my arms.

"I feel like I have a decent advantage pressing wide receivers due to arm length."

A trio of schools hold the lead as Woods prepares to make the summer camp rounds.

"Memphis, Southern Miss and South Alabama are at the top right now," Woods said. "I am hoping to get an offer from Mississippi State and that's why I came to camp."

Whether the Bulldogs offer or not, Woods plans to make the most of his time on campus gaining instruction from the Bulldog coaching staff.

"I just want to learn something new everyday," Woods said. "I have a lot that I want to work on and get better with, so I am always trying to learn something to be a better player and person."
