Q&A With Jazmine Spears

Mississippi State women's basketball junior forward Jazmine Spears talks to the media.

Spears is a junior college All-American who initially signed with Mississippi State out of high school.

Have the first two weeks been what you expected?
"It has and more."

What do you mean by more?
"Just everything that you have to do, class, workouts."

Coach Schafer said every position is stacked. What has that been like for you?
"It has been very different. You have to go out there and work for what you want."

You have been looking forward to coming here forever. How difficult was it to get past that while you were at Trinity?
"It was very difficult. I look at Trinity Valley as the development that I had, the growth that I had and what I came out with from there."

What was it like for you when you were able to wear the maroon and white that first practice?
"I think I was a little too excited. But I got used to it and was able to calm down. Then, everything was like it was supposed to be."

What will fans see when they see you on the court for the first time?
"The same player they saw (in high school) but with more growth, a better outside player, a better shooter and a more physical player."

How has yoga been for you?
"It has been fun. It's something that I have never done before. It has helped us."

How has it helped?
"I am doing things that I have never done before, like stretching which makes you more flexible. I can now do things that I didn't know that I could do."

What did the team think when you first found out that you were going to do yoga?
"I think it was going to be something that was fun. But it has been real work. But it will help us in the long run."

Your head coach at Trinity Valley is now an assistant coach here. Is that a good or bad thing?
"I think it is a little different because she knows what I can do. And if I am lagging and not doing what I need to be doing, she will get on me and tell me what I need to improve on."

This past season at Trinity Valley you earned All-American honors. How did you feel about receiving that honor?
"I feel like I was blessed because I worked hard for it."
