  • Position: Left-handed Pitcher
  • Ht: Wt: 6-foot-1, 175
  • Bats-Throws: L-L
  • High School: Northridge (AL) High School

What pitches do you throw and what is your normal velocity?
"Normally, I have two fastballs, a two-seam that tails a good bit and a cut fastball that I normally throw inside to right-handed batters or away from a lefty. My curveball is my strikeout pitch normally when I get two strikes. But I can throw it anytime in the count for a strike. My fastball usually sits around 86-88. I have topped out at 89-90 but that is on a heck of a day. I also have a changeup but I am still working on it. Hopefully, when I come to (Mississippi State) Coach (Butch) Thompson will be able to help me with that a lot."

You wound up choosing Mississippi State but you were previously committed to Alabama. Why did you wind up choosing Mississippi State?
"Between my sophomore and junior years I was with the East Coast Grays and I received a scholarship offer from Alabama. I was committed to them for the next two years then toward the end of my senior season some things started happening and they wanted me to go to a juco school for a year then come back and sign with them.

"There was a period of time where I was receiving full rides from juco schools in Florida, Mississippi and Alabama. Then Mississippi State called my coach at Northridge (High School). I then came over for a visit and had a great time. I'm not even on a baseball scholarship currently because they were out at the time. I'm on academic money this first year. (Alex has a 27 ACT) I am coming here to study Civil Engineering. I will be here in a couple of weeks when I start workouts on July 5th."

What are your thoughts about Mississippi State?
"I love the campus. And it is an easy drive over here from Tuscaloosa. The coaching staff is fantastic. I really love Coach Thompson. He seems like a great guy. Coach (Nick) Mingione is the first person that I talked to (on the Mississippi State coaching staff). He is also a great guy. I talked to (head) Coach (John) Cohen once. He is a really nice guys. I am really looking forward to being here for the next four years. I am also really looking forward to the new stadium that we are getting after my freshman season.. "

What did you know about Butch Thompson as a pitching coach?
"I know that he is one of the greatest pitching coaches in the nation right now. A former pitcher of his, Trevor Fitts, coaches this team (East Coast Sox 15 team). And (former MSU pitcher) Ross Mitchell normally coaches this team. Both of them love him."
