Thomas has proven to be a solid contributor to the Clinton Arrow football program. While most of the world knows him as LaMarques, those in Clinton, Mississippi call him "Baby D".
"That name came a long time ago when I was playing for the Jackson Redskins," Thomas said. "My mama knew my coach from before when she was younger. Everybody calls her D, so my coach started calling me Baby D and it just stayed with me. It's been a good nickname too."
That story is one that Thomas will likely have to recount to several college football coaches during in person visits later in the process. A number of programs are jockeying for position now.
"My latest offer is Middle Tennessee," Thomas said. "Recruiting is going well, but I am just going to take my time with everything and see how things play out. I don't really have a favorite right now."
The Blue Raiders join Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Monroe, Missouri and South Alabama among others who have extended offers. Thomas has been on the road this summer in an effort to see what other options he could generate for himself.
"I have been to Alabama and Ole Miss. Ole Miss was the most recent camp," Thomas explained. "I am going to Georgia's Dawg Night and Mississippi State's Big Dawg camp next month. They are on back to back days."
In between SEC camping dates, Thomas is working hard to ensure that his final season on the prep level is a great one.
"We are looking good this summer," Thomas said. "We are trying to find the chemistry in the team again. These 7-on-7s are giving us a good chance to build some chemistry together as a team. I'm excited about the season. It should be a good year for us."
