Big Dawg: Carter Wood

Starkville Academy rising senior Carter Wood was one of several players on the Mississippi State campus this weekend for the Big Dawg camp. Wood is looking to impress the Mississippi State coaching staff in hopes of seeing his name rise up the Bulldog board.

"It was intense," Wood said of camp. "The agilities were intense. The weight workout we did the twenty minutes we were in there was rough. Once we came here (Davis Wade), I learned a lot. One-on-ones were intense and I learned a lot there.

"I thought I did pretty well. I did some good stuff and some bad staff, but I learned a lot."

Wood has been in touch with Mississippi State offensive line coach John Hevesy throughout the recruiting process. The Friday night event provided another opportunity to work with the veteran coach.

"He is really big on the knee bend and keeping your weight in certain areas," Wood explained. "He talked to me about that a lot and just told me some things that I needed to work on to get better."

A handful of college programs have shown interest in Wood as he prepares to enter his senior season at Starkville Academy.

"I am hearing from Mississippi State, Central Arkansas and Troy," Wood said. "South Alabama has shown some interest and Southern Miss has shown some interest."

Wood is content to wait out the process and see what options come his way throughout the season and beyond.

"I am not really sure when I am going to have a decision, but it's going to be a while," Wood said. "I am just going to see what happens this year."
