SEC Releases State's League Slate

The Southeastern Conference released Mississippi State’s league schedule today, and Coach Ben Howland’s first Bulldog team is going to get its fill of road conference action immediately.

The 2016 slate sends Mississippi State to Arkansas, Kentucky, and Florida among the first five matchups. At least Ben Howland does get to make his SEC debut on the Humphrey Coliseum court, as Texas A&M has drawn that assignement.

Under the SEC’s altered permanent opponent rotation, the home-and-home series with cross-border neighbor Alabama resumes. One of the more intense rivalries of past years, both programs have new head coaches for 2015-16. State hosts the Tide on February 2 and returns the game on February 20.

Mississippi State will also double-up against A&M, Arkansas, and South Carolina under this scheme. And, of course, play the arch-rivalry of the state as usual home-and-home. This season, the Bulldogs will be home first on January 23 before their March 2 trip to Oxford.

The SEC Tournament remains in Nashville for another year, at Bridgestone Arena on March 9-13.

Mississippi State announced its non-conference schedule last month, which begins November 13 with a visit by Eastern Washington. This will serve as nightcap on a double-header debut for both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs who will host Samford earlier in the evening. Game times have not been set for the Friday, which precedes the Saturday showdown of Mississippi State and Alabama on Scott Field.
