Class of 2017 RHP Tanner Belcher

Central (AL) High School class of 2017 right-hand pitcher Tanner Belcher talks with Gene's Page about attending the Mississippi State baseball camp and what colleges are recruiting him.

Why do you come to camps like this one?
"I am coming off an injury. I've rehabbed it. So, right now, I am coming to showcases trying to get some exposure, trying to get some offers."

What other camps have you attended?
"I'm usually in Atlanta at (the) Perfect Game (events). Shorter University has sent me an email about going there. The coach from Middle Tennessee State called and invited me to come up there in October."

Now that you have camped at Mississippi State, what are your thoughts about them?
"From what I have seen, it is a great school, great environment. Obviously, all the kids who are here are here to win, get better and make it to the next level. That is what I want to do and where I want to be."

I saw you pitch today. Your velocity was anywhere from 86 to 89 miles per hour. Are you 100% back from your injury?
"I am about 90% to 95%. So, I am getting there."

What kind of injury was it?
"360 labrum tear on my left arm. It happened about a year and three months ago."

The 86-89 velo is a pretty good velo for such a young guy. Is that what you have been throwing at the events that you have attended recently?
"I was at Perfect Game and threw 89 there. I have touched 90 but not where people saw me (pitch)."
