"That was my first time to visit Mississippi State," said Weatherspoon. "I liked the bond the coaches have and how nice the gym is. I think the players are real cool. I got close to them real fast. I just liked the environment."
Weatherspoon had the chance to talk with Mississippi State head man Ben Howland during the visit.
"I know that he has sent a lot of players to the league," said the talented guard. "He tells me about my game and how he can make me better. He likes how hard I play. He compares me to (current NBA basketball player) Russell Westbrook. He told me that he likes how I can get to the rim and how my pullup jumper is. He likes that I don't bring the ball down when I shoot."
Weatherspoon is being recruited by assistant coach George Brooks. He had some good things to say about him.
"Coach Brooks is recruiting me," said Weatherspoon. "I think he is a good coach and he has a bond with my dad and my high school coach. I like him."
He saw his recruitment pick up during late summer due to his outstanding play with his AAU team, MBA Hoops.
"I have offers from LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, UConn, Penn State, University of Portland and some others that I can't think of off the top of my head," said Weatherspoon. Two of the other offers are from Florida State and Miami (FL).
Weatherspoon has a couple more unofficial visits planned the next few weeks.
"I am going to LSU this weekend, then I will probably go to Memphis after that," he said.
