Mississippi State Expects Both Young Quarterbacks To Play The Demons

Mississippi State plans to do more than just get a pair of young quarterbacks into Saturday’s home game with Northwestern State. This is about evaluating the future of the position.

No question, giving Nick Fitzgerald and Elijah Staley both as many non-conference snaps as possible matters. With junior Damian Williams redshirting, it is Fitzgerald first who would replace All-SEC Dak Prescott.

At the same time Coach Dan Mullen and quarterbacks Coach Brian Johnson have to look beyond 2015’s tests. There are four underclassmen on the quarterback roster right now. Does Mississippi State need to sign another, or can they stand-pat with this quartet for 2016?

So getting some more serious tests of Fitzgerald and Staley right now could impact what Mullen and staff do with their winter recruiting plans.
