Mississippi State verbal Dontrel Allen will finally get his senior season started this weekend.

Mississippi State verbal Dontrel Allen has been waiting to begin his senior season for four weeks. A summer transfer from East St. John to East Jefferson High school became a sticking point with the Louisiana High School Activities Association. After some discussions on the matter, Allen is now cleared to resume play at his original school, East St. John.

"I am so ready to play," Allen said. "I am cleared to play this Friday night. This will be my first game this year and I just can't wait to get on the field."

Allen's transfer to East Jefferson was a matter of relocation and convenience rather than one made for athletic achievement.

"It's been so stressful, man," Allen said. "I thought everything was going to be okay. We went down there to meet with the LHSAA on September 2nd and they said that I couldn't play at East Jeff. They did tell me that if I went back to East St. John that I would eligible immediately."

With that ruling in hand, Allen made arrangements to return to Reserve, Louisiana and begin practice with his old team.

"It is good to be back, but it's really just good to be back out there," Allen explained. "I missed being out there on the field. I missed practicing and just being with the team."

Allen had to endure a lot of good natured trash talk in the days leading up to Mississippi State's home game with LSU. The south Louisiana star reports that his Bulldogs made him pride even in defeat.

"We almost did it," Allen said of Mississippi State's two point loss to LSU. "I guess they just had a lot of confidence since they beat LSU last year. They did a pretty good job on Leonard Fournette and I think the defense is going to be good this year.

"It was hard going to school and listening to all of that talk before the game, but nobody had too much to say the next week."

The talented corner reports that he remains in regular contact with the Mississippi State coaching staff and that he is eager to join the fold next fall.

"I talk to somebody from Mississippi State every other day," Allen said. "I can't wait to get up there. I was supposed to go for the LSU game, but things didn't work out. I am trying to go to the next home game. I am ready to get up there and see the crowd on game day.

"I am solid with them and I am always talking about going up there."

Allen will take be in the line-up this weekend as the Wildcats of East St. John travel to Bourgeois. The Cats are currently 0-3 on the season, so Allen's return is welcome news to the East St. John fan base.
