Columbus standout running back Kylin Hill leads his team to victory over DeSoto Central 23-21

Fans of the Columbus Falcons found out at game time that they would be without one half of their talented running back tandem, Kendre Conner. Despite not having one of their top offensive threats, CHS won a hard fought victory over DeSoto Central 23-21 thanks in large part to the efforts of junior running back Kylin Hill.

"This game is really huge for us," Hill said during the post-game. "It tells us that if we do everything right, we can beat anybody in our region."

The Falcons' first region win look to be in serious jeopardy in the early going. Desoto Central jumped out to a 21-10 halftime lead on the strength of three Alan Lamar touchdowns. Columbus found some magic during the intermission and outscored the Jags 13-0 in the second half.

"At halftime, Coach talked about execution and just doing our jobs," Hill said. "He told us to quit worrying about all of the penalties we had. That really upset us and we lost focus. When we really focus we feel like we can beat good teams like this."

Now 1-0 in the region and 3-2 overall, Columbus will take on Tupelo next week in another big early contest. Getting off to a strong start in region play was important to Hill and his teammates.

"Our confidence has sky rocketed," Hill said. "This was a really good team that we just played. I think they were even ranked. I think this was good for everybody on the team. We had some good leadership tonight even from some of the guys who didn't get in the game. Everybody stepped up and just tried to stay positive. It all worked out and we got a good win."

Several college programs have shown interest in the talented junior, but in the early going it appears that Mississippi State and Ole Miss and jockeying for the pole position.

"It's back and forth," Hill said. "Ole Miss has been showing me the most love and contacting me every day. They even contacted me before the game to wish me luck.

"Coach (Dan) Mullen messaged me and told me that it's a great day to be a Bulldog. He was chatting it up with me and I also spoke with Coach (John) Hevesy. They are telling me that I would be a great fit for their program. We're just talking it up."

Hill had talked about making an early commitment, but it appears that this plans have changed for now.

"Right now, I am just focused on my team and trying to make the playoffs," Hill explained. "I am still taking my time with everything and I don't plan on making a decision right now."
