Mississippi State is Only 2015 Team without Winning Record in 40-Team Poll

The ballparks are cold and quiet. But college baseball polls are starting to warm-up and Mississippi State heard encouraging news Monday.

Collegiate Baseball has awarded the Diamond Dogs a #11 ranking in their pre-season poll. This projection says much about popular perceptions of how quickly Mississippi State is expected to rebound from a disappointing 2015 with a strong 2016. In fact, State is the only team that had a sub-.500 record last spring which is ranked in this 40-team polling.

Naturally the poll has a strong SEC flavor. Florida is ranked #1 overall, with 2015 College World Series runners-up Vanderbilt third; Texas A&M fifth; and Louisiana State seventh.

Mississippi State leads off the ‘second ten’, with Arkansas coming in at #24 and Kentucky #29. Missouri is #34 and South Carolina is predicted #35.

The Diamond Dogs open the eighth season under Coach John Cohen on February 19.
