Alabama HS OL Brandon Nix Commits to MSU

[Premium Article] Coosa Valley Academy (Harpersville, AL) offensive/defensive lineman Brandon Nix (6-4, 268, 5.1) committed to Mississippi State Tuesday. Gene's Page talked with Brandon yesterday about his commitment.

What schools called you during the May evaluation period?
"I had a whole list of them, but I can't remember all of them."

Don't worry about it if you can't remember them all. What schools are showing the most interest in you?
"Well, after I went to the camp at Mississippi State (this past weekend), I committed to them today (Tuesday)."

Really? Why did you decide to go ahead and commit to Mississippi State?
"I liked the campus and the coaches. They were real nice. Plus, they have the fields that I want to major in. I'll probably go into Forestry or Fresh Water Fisheries or Agriculture. I'm not really sure exactly what it will be, but it will have to be something that is outdoors."

What other schools have offered a scholarship other than MSU?
"Vandy offered me and Middle Tennessee State University offered me."

When did the MSU coaches become interested in you?
"When I went to the Tennessee Titans combine in Nashville, (MSU OL) Coach Campbell saw me up there and started writing me more and more letters."

Did he talk to you at the camp? If so, what did he say he liked about you?
"He said he liked my footwork and that I can still get stronger."

You mentioned he liked your potential to get stronger. Do you know what your maximum bench press and squat currently is?
"My max on bench press is 365. I got that last Thursday. The last time I maxed on squats, which was about one and a half to two years ago, I got 425. I quit doing squats because it agitated my knee, so I started doing leg presses. I got 675 on leg presses."

Thanks, Brandon.
"Yes sir."
