Bulldog Defensive Lineman Joins Invitees for NFL Draft

How high has Chris Jones’ stock risen in the past weeks? The Bulldog defensive lineman has scored a rare invitation to attend the National Football League draft.

Jones is among the 25 leading prospects of 2016 officially invited to attend this year’s draft days in Chicago. The April 28-30 event is being held in the Auditorium Theatre, with seven rounds comprising 253 selections.

Jones is one of nine Southeastern Conference products earning invitation this year. He also was able to participate in the NFL's Indianapolis combine this winter.

Jones is entering the draft a year early after playing three seasons with Mississippi State. As a junior he compiled 44 total tackles playing at defensive tackle, with 2.5 sacks and 7.5 stops for losses and five hurries.

It was Jones’ second season at interior tackle in the 4-3 base defense. As a true 2013 freshman he played defensive end.

Jones is one of three Bulldogs headed to professional football a year early. He is joined by junior outside linebacker Beniquez Brown, and junior split end De’Runnya Wilson.
