"I think that (Jason) Husband is going to be ok. Like any freshman, we have to bring him along. Joey (Sanders) has been hurt. Before he got hurt, he showed some good ball skills. His injury is not serious. Their main thing now, after four days into it, is learning plays. Once they can get that, they will be alright."
What are some specific things you like about them?
"I think they have the ability to catch the ball. We, as a group, have to become more consistent (catching the ball). We will get that. I think some of that is just not knowing everything because we have so much going in. Overall, I think the young guys have good football skills and that is a beginning."
Talk a little about your impressions of Omarr Conner and Tyler Threadgill after seeing them play a little at wide receiver.
"Threadgill, to me, is almost a natural. I like him a lot. Hopefully, I can convince someone to let me have him (laugh). Time will tell. You always want athletes. That's where it always starts. And they understand because they are quarterbacks and understand the passing scheme."
Justin Jenkins has really looked good, so far. He made a couple of great catches Wednesday.
"He made two great ones yesterday and a great one today. He is leading the group. I think the three that are sticking out to me are Justin, McKinley (Scott) and Ray Ray Bivines. We just have to get Will Prosser more consistent and get him to believe that he can make a big play. Tee (Milons) is coming along. We are going to make some of the rest come along. It is not optional. We will get better."
Overall, are you disappointed with any aspect of what you have seen, so far?
"I would like to see us catch the ball more consistently. People say that has been a problem. I really think part of that is so much is going in and (them) not having complete confidence. I really think that will get better. If you come back a week from now and talk to me, that will be one of our strong points."
Your guys are the ones that go directly against the defensive backs. What has been your impression of some of the younger guys that you have seen?
"I'll just say this: We are a hell of a lot better in the secondary than we were in the spring. So, you can take it from there."
