Or, maybe, cheer them.
There certainly won’t be any mixed feelings about opening day for the 2016 Bulldogs. The September 3 visit by South Alabama will kick off on Scott Field at 11:00am, and has been assigned to the SEC Network for telecast.
A week later it will be a late afternoon start to SEC season here, as South Carolina-Mississippi State is set for 6:00. Either ESPN’s main channel or ESPN2 will air the inter-Division matchup.
The same time and broadcast situation holds for another week, this time when the Bulldogs venture out on the road and visit LSU on September 17. It too is 6:00 with either ESPN or 2 showing the show from Tiger Stadium.
South Alabama is coming to campus for a third meeting under the two-for-one contract that began in 2012. The ’12 Bulldogs beat the Jaguars on Scott Field in a first-ever meeting; and followed that with a 2014 victory in Mobile.
South Carolina is this year’s rotating SEC East opponent, taking the place of Missouri. The programs have not played since 2013 when the Gamecocks won a seventh-straight game in the series. Next year it will be Georgia replacing South Carolina, with State going to Athens.
And State’s last trip to Baton Rouge is worth remembering. A 34-29 Bulldog victory snapped a 14-year losing streak and put quarterback Dak Prescott on the national stage.
The full 2016 schedule: Sept 3 South Alabama 11:00am; Sept 10 South Carolina 6:00; Sept 17 @ LSU 6:00; Sept 24 @ UMass; Oct 1 open; Oct 8 Auburn; Oct 14 @ Brigham Young; Oct 22 @ Kentucky; Oct 29 Samford; Nov 5 Texas A&M; Nov 12 @ Alabama; Nov 19 Arkansas; Nov 26 @ Ole Miss.
