Class of 2018 DE DeAndre Johnson takes in Mississippi State

Miami-Southridge High School class of 2017 defensive end DeAndre Johnson, who has an offer from Mississippi State, decided to camp at Mississippi State to find out more about them.

"I've had an offer from Mississippi State and my coach said let's hit the road and come up here," said Johnson. "I was excited about coming up.."

He came away impressed with his position coach, Mississippi State defensive line coach Brian Baker.

"Talking to Coach Baker, he coached some of the best in the NFL, and has a lot of experience," said the 6-foot-3, 246-pound defensive end. "He told me things about my hips, hand movement and how to be a dominant defensive end, be a dominant playmaker off of the edge."

As for Mississippi State, he came away very impressed.

"I didn't expect any of this," said Johnson, who has offers from schools throughout the nation. "It is a great place. The campus seems new. Everything is new here. There is a great vibe around this campus. Everybody is nice. I would definitely rate them in the top five after the visit. They should get an official visit."

Johnson expects to accelarate the recruiting process.

"I am going to be an early graduate," he said. "I'm planning on making a decision if not before the season then sometime in November."
