Each Recruiting Class Listed

June prospect camps are completed and Mississippi State coaches are grabbing their summer breaks. Though, in a couple of cases, this ‘break’ will at least partly be used to complete the moving process since their spring hirings.

This doesn’t mean Bulldog football is about to entirely drop out of the news for a few weeks ahead of Dan Mullen’s July 12 appearance at SEC Media Days. Among other things, some of those June visitors are now making public commitments to sign on with Mississippi State. Eventually. Probably. Maybe?

It is a long time yet to signing days be they December or February. At the same time if—a big if—all these commitments hold up; if the announcing players even have commitable offers for that matter; then Mullen and staff have two-thirds of the ’17 class secured already.

With the latest announcement, by a defensive back prospect, Scout.com should be showing 17 commitments for the next class. Some of them date as far back as summer 2014, a reminder that football courting and committing comes sooner and faster than ever. It also makes one think, how for all the annual coaching carousel talk prospects must be comfortable Dan Mullen will be in charge of Bulldog football by the time they enroll.

As commitments continue, it seems a fine time to look at everyone who has signed-on with Mississippi State since Mullen took over in December 2008. This includes signees who never showed up, did not qualify the first year, or left before ever playing.

The 2016 class does not list a couple of summer signees who have yet to be officially added to the incoming roster, by the way.

These annual lists are taken from signing day releases, with a few later signed (not walk-on) additions, and everyone is shown at their signing day position regardless of where they ended up playing. If ‘*’ appears in front of the name, that player got on the field year-one as a newcomer, high school or transfer. Juco signees have a ‘jc’.

The other fun of this listing? It is being reminded of how intensely so many of these signees were followed at the time…and have been entirely forgotten since. There’s a lesson of some sort there for prospects and media alike.
