Bulldog Fans Have Five Game Times to Plan Around in First Half of Schedule

It’s not an ideal schedule in several ways, such as just six home dates and a less-than-sparkling list of visiting teams. But by golly, the 2016 Bulldog slate has one advantage over recent years. Most of the early game times have been set months in advance!

A fifth game time was settled today, as the Mississippi State contest with UMass on September 24 has been assigned a 3:30 et kickoff. The game is at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. The network to carry this inter-regional matchup has yet to be announced.

This means five of the first six game times are now official. The only such gap in the whole first half of the 2016 slate is State’s October 8 home game with Auburn.

The settled kickoff times, all central, to-date are:

Sept 3 South Alabama 11:00am (SEC Network); Sept 10 South Carolina 6:00 ESPN/2; Sept 17 @LSU 6:00 ESPN/2; Sept 24 @UMass 2:30 tba; Oct 14 @Brigham Young 9:15 ESPN.

The UMass game was hastily contracted a year ago when Tulane, due to visit Scott Field in 2016, abruptly canceled the trip to accept a three-game offer from Oklahoma. So these Bulldogs are forced to play half their schedule on the road.

The advantage as such is that at least the UMass trip goes not to the Lowell, Mass., campus; but will be played on the home field of the New England Patriots. The MSU Alumni Association has seized the opportunity to arrange a travel package to Boston for this trip. They also have packages for the BYU and Kentucky games.

State’s last regular-season game on a NFL field was the 2013 opener against Oklahoma State played in Houston. Of course bowling Bulldog teams have played games at professional venues in five of the last six post-seasons.
