While pitching at the Mississippi State baseball camp Sunday, Smith consistently threw 86-88 miles per hour while topping out at 90. He worked hard this past summer to improve his velocity.
"Over the summer I competed with and against high talent at the State Games and with Team Mississippi after the State Games," said Smith, who saw his velo increase 7 to 8 miles per hour since he pitched at a Perfect Game event on June 6th of this year.
Smith attended Sunday's camp with the hopes of impressing the Mississippi State coaching staff.
"I came to the Mississippi State camp because I grew up a fan of Mississippi State and have always wanted to be a Mississippi State baseball player," said Smith. "My dad was a big fan and my bother is, too, so I have been around Mississippi State for awhile. (Throughout the years) I have come to a couple of football games and a good bit of baseball games."
Smith, as you would expect with the increase in velocity, has seen his recruitment pick up this summer.
"I have an offer from Southern Miss to hit and pitch and Southeastern Louisiana, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are showing interest (in me as a pitcher)," said Smith.
