The Mississippi State coaches have been showing early interest in the very talented member of the class of 2019. And they wanted to have him showcase his talents at a camp of theirs.
"I actually got invited to the camp," said Tanner. "I have been talking to (Mississippi State assistant) Coach (Will) Coggin."
He enjoyed his camp experience.
"I had a great time. It was a good experience for me," said Tanner.
Although he can play several positions, it was his pitching that caught the eye of the coaches at the camp. Although just a sophomore, his consistent fastball velocity at the MSU camp was 84-86. He threw even harder at an Ole Miss camp a day before the MSU camp.
"I threw 86-89 at the Ole Miss Camp (on Saturday)," said Tanner. "It was a good experience being up there. It is a good college. This is a great college also"
Both schools are recruiting him.
"Ole Miss and Mississippi State are showing interest in me," said Tanner.
Last spring, he played in 28 games for the George County High School varsity team. He showed great versatility by playing multiple positions.
"I played different positions for them. I played first base, third base, caught, pitched and DH'ed," said Tanner, who batted .278 with 9 RBI. Pitching-wise, he threw 4 innings.
