"The visit went better than I expected," said the talented outfielder. "The facilities were awesome. The Palmeiro Center impressed me the most. It was amazing. I loved the team chemistry. It was like a big family. The coaches are great. They are all into trying to help the team be better so they can win."
Mississippi State has been recruiting Rivera for about a month.
"I have been talking to (Mississippi State assistant coach) Will Coggin for about a month," said Rivera. " He says he likes what I can do at the plate. I am 6-foot-6 but at the same time I am kind of athletic. And I have power when I hit. He likes how I hit the ball."
Visit-wise, next up for Rivera is another SEC school.
"I am going on a visit to Auburn this coming weekend," said the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder.
He is also considering three other schools for possible visits.
"I am also looking at FIU, Kentucky and Alabama," said Rivera, who has been told by all of the schools that he has an offer waiting for him when he visits them.
Rivera is in no hurry to announce his commitment.
"I am going to wait until I finish visiting all of the schools before making my decision," said Rivera. "After I visit them, I am going to sit down with my family and my coach and tell them how I feel and try and get some feedback from them. Then I will make my call."
It appears Mississippi State will definitely be in the mix when he makes his final choice.
"Right now, Mississippi State is pretty high on everything," said Rivera. "It was my first visit but I kind of liked what I saw. But I want to see the other schools just to be fair to everyone."
As a freshman, Rivera hit .397 with 10 home runs and 67 RBI in 56 games for Chipola (FL) College.
