Land had visited Mississippi State a couple of times prior to committing. His third visit was the lucky charm for the Mississippi State coaches.

"When I committed I was at the MSU football game that week and I told (head) Coach (Andy) Cannizaro in person that MSU was the place for me," said Land, rated the 62nd best player in the class of 2019 by Perfect Game. "He was ecstatic about it."

He pointed out the reasons why he felt Mississippi State was the right choice for him.

"The biggest reason that led me to MSU was the history of the baseball program," said Land. "Another big reason was how well the coaches have treated me throughout the process."

He was particularly impressed with his recruiting coach, assistant coach Will Coggin, and new head coach Andy Cannizaro.

"Coach Coggin is awesome, and really made MSU feel like home and was there for me through the whole process," said Land. "And Coach Cannizaro is a very high energy coach who wants to do whatever it takes to win and that's exactly what I want to do."

He explained why the coaches felt like he was a good fit for their program.

"Every time I talk to Coach Cannizaro he asks me if I'm ready to come hit for him," said Land. "(The coaches said that) I remind them of a former MSU player (and current Pittsburgh Pirates player) named Adam Frazier, which is a huge compliment. I'm glad they compared me to him."

Land chose Mississippi State over several other major college baseball programs, including Florida State, LSU and Auburn. In addition to MSU, Land had offers from Florida State and LSU.
